Keeping it interesting – Eventhough the main focus of this project is the quality of produce and reconnecting our guest to it, we would love to see Down to Earth – farm feast grow and be introduced in new and exciting ways. We want to constantly create new angles that would appeal to a variety of people, considering different tastes, ages and budgets. Seeing that our Farm dinners are more geared to adults, we thought a family friendly, picnic style feast would be a great idea for parents and kids to enjoy our concept. Of course we also welcome anyone who just wants to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon picnicking under the trees.
What a nice surprise – While planning our next feast on Monaghan Farm (bookings opening soon), we were delightfully surprised when we received a phone call from our sister-in-law, Chanelle Schoon, chef at Fritz Schoon’s De Oude Bank Bakkerij in Stellenbosch. She’s been a huge supporter of what we are doing and informed us that she had a little bit of free time before they open their new extension to their shop and would love to help us with our next feast.
We then decided to keep everything close to home, from the chef to the venue and approached our childhood vet, Dr. Elardus Erasmus, whose family has owned about 1600 hectares of farmland next to the R21 (Albertina Sisulu freeway) for years. This area is currently being developed as Riverfields and Elardus suggested we have the picnic in the Poplar forest next to the dam where they spent a lot of time playing as kids.
